An update from SWAT4(HC)LS 2018

Greetings from SWAT4HCLS

We would like to update you on the status of preparations for SWAT4HCLS 2018 and remind you of upcoming deadlines and ways to participate in the conference.

Abstract and paper submission opens: May 1st
Full paper abstract registration: July 30th *
Full paper submission: September 3th
Poster and demo submissions: October 8th
Notification of acceptance (papers): October 1st
Notification of acceptance (poster and demo): 1 week after submission

*For full papers, we strongly encourage you to register your intention to submit (a title and an abstract) by end of July (this would help us in guaranteeing acceptance times and most allocation of your paper to the appropriate reviewers on the PC).

We are simplifying the price structure by dropping the distinction between early registration and regular registration costs. To compensate for this, we are offering several discounts of 20% on a first come/first served basis (please use the code: EARLY-PARTICIPANT) when registering.

This years for the first time we have decided to enrich the program by proposing three sessions or themes: agriculture and nutrition, secondary reuse of healthcare data and open data. This in addition to the more general focus our conference, which is to generally foster the adoption of semantic technologies in healthcare and life sciences.

We are hosting a series of esteemed Keynote speakers with diverse perspectives on the relevance, utility and opportunities that Semantics offers in the decade ahead. Full Keynote profiles can be viewed here:
• How Does Data Science Impact the Semantic Web? – Philip Bourne
• Semantic Web and the New Industrial Revolution – Dean Allemang
• Spinning a Semantic Web for Agriculture – Medha Devare

This year we are excited and honored to be receiving sponsorship from the G8’s GODAN and Figshare.
SWAT4HCLS is run by a non-profit organization and relies of the voluntary work of organizers and its programme committee. We are always keen to provide creative ways to facilitate a link between technology providers and data economy stakeholders and their public in return for sponsorship funds. Further details on sponsorship opportunities are listed here:

We are complementing the program with a range of tutorials on semantic tools, industry standards and more foundational techniques

We are setting up multiple panel discussion and have solicited feedback on discussion topics. Several comments and topic suggestions were already posted online. Please add yours.

We are working on finalizing our journal submission policy for this year and will provide an open call authors of conference papers from last year and this year. We are also working on reworking our process to shorten publication times.
